Northern Pike Fishing
Few sport fish will inspire tales like the great northern pike. Esnagi Lake’s lunker northerns are legendary. Big waters produce big fish. Expansive weedbeds, deep main-lake basins, a large forage base and widely practiced catch & release has allowed an excellent pike fishery to flourish.
Northern Pike Fishing
Although many northerns are caught incidentally by walleye fishermen, the largest pike are taken using casting techniques and tackle specifically thrown at pike. Esnagi Lake’s countless rocky points, island saddles, shoals and weed beds provide great areas for casting your favourite large spoons, plugs, buzz baits, crank baits, etc. In addition to casting many northerns are caught trolling the lakes various structures. Since pike will never pass up a minnow presentation, bait rigs and float fishing are also successful approaches to pike fishing on Esnagi. These fish are very aggressive, pound your baits with abandon and test both your skills and tackle to the limit.
Trophy Northern Pike
Several fish over 40″ are caught by Mar Mac anglers each season. We encourage all fishermen to take a photo of their trophy and release it quickly ensuring the quality of Esnagi’s fishery. It’s not uncommon to catch many pike in the 34- 44 inch range and some of our lucky fisherman have even caught northerns up to 47 inches long!
By liking our Facebook page you can see daily updates through out the season as trophy Pike pictures are posted.
